  "Even if it isn't true" - how many of you heard this one recently?

  i remember first hearing it after the generation change of 95.. a sister answered up at the wt and said "even if armageddon isn't coming, its still the best way to live.".

  i have heard others say: "even if it isn't true, it's still the best way of life.".

  my mother said it a few weeks ago!

  Self-justification is fuelled by cognitive dissonance - so I suspect in the case of JW's coming up with the very lame "its the best way of life even if its all horsesh*t" are particularly troubled by some of their JW lifestyle choices and values and their perception of the way reality is unfolding for them.

  Next time you hear this perhaps tactfully enquire about areas of their life they would change given a blank sheet of paper. Could get interesting.

  Brilliant. I agree. With a statement like that, they are revealing there are things they have questions about... draw them out and find out what they are. Remember, the "finding common ground" for reasoning routine?

  Oh, that's rich!! Yeah, he (Jah) understands that you ddn't "realize" and were "trying the best you could" and will bless you for your JW ignorance if it's "not the truth", but he'll slay everyone else. I see how that works and makes sense!!

  "Listen up, damn it!! I said I want to join this damn church!"
  
  "I'm very sorry sir, but that kind of language is not tolerated in this church."
  
  The secretary leaves her desk and goes into the pastor's study to inform him of her situation. The pastor agrees that the secretary does not have to listen to that foul language.
  
  They both return to her office and the pastor asks the old geezer, "Sir, what seems to be the problem here?"
  
  "There is no damn problem!!" the man yells. "I just won $200 million bucks in the damn lottery and I want to join this damn church and give the Lord some of this damn money!"
  
  "I see," said the pastor. "And is this bitch giving you a hard time, my son?"

  hi newbie to this great place

  sorry this has turned out longer than i thought.anyway i lived the life of a single mother fell away from the organisation,and eventually met a (worldly) guy who is the most loving guy i have ever met,my best friend,lover and soulmate.i was disfellowshipped 4 months ago because we live with each other and plan to get married in september,unacceptable to the society hence my disfellowshipping.it has broke my mum and dads heart and im so so sorry for this,i love them so much,but no longer want or believe in the jw beliefs.

  i still believe in god but dont know where im bound as regards my faith,i really do want to have something.

  apart from my mum and dad and the shunning arrangement im so happy,the happiest i have ever been in years,and my 2 youngest ones are happy as well..my eldest daughter is 16 and planning on getting baptised in july which is tearing me apart,she is so like me,but is being brainwashed by a certain crowd of witnesses,need i say anymore...my eldest son who is 18 isnt in the truth and feels the same way i do... anyway thanks for this forum and hope to hear from likeminded friends soon.

  Tandem Skydives in less than one day you can be making a tandem skydive from up to 14,500 feet you then free fall at speeds of 120 mph down to 5,000 feet where the tandem instructor opens the parachute

  That's the part that scares me!!!!

  A fall at 120mph shouldn't scare you... a STOP at 120mph should scare you! It's not the fall that'll kill you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom. :-) (Sorry, that probably didn't help!)

  I really hope you'll try this (skydiving, especially as it's a dream you have. As with all things, skydiving has risks, but if done with proper training and equipment, the risks are reasonable. Educate yourself on the risks, and proactively select a good, reputable skydiving operation. Skydiving, like many things, are as safe as you want to make it be, though occasional accidents not due to any fault of your own, do happen, just as they do in your car.

  Is your hesistancy related in any way to the way JW's indoctrinated us that "skydiving and rock climbing show a lack of respect for the gift of life"?

  If I wasn't so scared of heights I would like to parachute of of an airplane.

  Have you considered a tandem jump? That takes a lot of the fear out of it--you're just "along for the ride".
